Play dough
Need:
2 cups of flour, 4 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1/2 cup salt, 2 cups boiling
water, 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, food coloring
Instructions:
Add the oil and food coloring to the boiling water. Combine all of the other
ingredients and mix well. Then knead the dough. It will get smoother the
more you knead it. Store in an airtight container.
Salt Dough
Need:
2 cups flour, 2 cups salt, 1 cup water,
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients to make a stiff dough. Knead for about 10 to 15
minutes. The clay is ready to shape.
Edible Crafts
Peanut
Butter Play Dough (Great for eating! Watch for allergies!)
Need:
3 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter, 4 cups confectioners’ sugar, 3 1/2 cups
light corn syrup, 4 cups dried milk powder, bowl
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix ingredients until smooth. Divide
into 10 to 15 portions. You can mold and shape into animals, flowers, cars,
etc. Decorate with
assorted cake sprinkles or small candies, then eat. Be careful if your child
is allergic to peanuts - do not make.
Honey Peanut Butter Play Dough
Need:
1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup honey, 2 cups powdered milk, bowl
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl with clean hands. Knead until smooth. Form the
dough into shapes, then eat.
Be careful if your child is allergic to peanuts - do not make.
Edible Necklace
Need:
Shoestring licorice, Cereal with holes, Candy with holes
Instructions:
Thread candy or cereal on licorice. When complete, tie ends together. Eat if
you want.
Pudding Paint
Need:
Instant vanilla pudding, food coloring
Instructions:
Mix pudding according to directions. Add food coloring for desired color.
Finger paint on paper plates or plastic plate. This is yummy edible.
Tootsie Pop Suckers Ghosts (This craft can be made for Halloween
goodie bags)
Need:
Tootsie Pops, White Kleenex, White yarn, glue, small wiggly eyes, marker
Instructions:
Cover a wrapped Tootsie Pop with 1 Kleenex. Tie yarn around Kleenex. Tie a
knot so it stays tight. Use a colored marker to place two dots for your
ghost's eyes or glue on two wiggly eyes.
Glue and Paste Crafts
Colored Glue
Need:
Elmer's Glue or white craft glue, food coloring, bowl
Instructions:
Mix the glue and food coloring together in a bowl. Return glue to its
original container. Kids can draw with a squirt bottle different shapes or
create a scenery on black construction paper. Let it dry.
Glue
Need:
3/4 cup water, 2 tablespoons corn syrup, 1 teaspoons white vinegar, 1/2 cup
cornstarch, 3/4 cup cold water, bowl, saucepan
Instructions:
Mix water, syrup and vinegar in small saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil. In
small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water. Add this mixture slowly to first
mixture. Stir constantly. Let stand overnight before using.
Flour and Water Paste
Need:
1/2 cup flour, 3 cups boiling water, 3/4 cup cold water, bowl, saucepan,
plastic squeeze container
Instructions:
Slowly pour cold water into flour and stir to make a paste in a bowl. Pour
paste into the boiling water, stirring constantly. Cook for 5 minutes in a
saucepan or until the paste is thick and smooth. When cool, pour into a
plastic squeeze container. Label. This paste can be used for papier-mâché
projects. This paste is nontoxic, which is good for young children, and it
will last for months if you keep it in the refrigerator.
Home Made Paste
Need:
1/2 cup flour, cold water, bowl, saucepan, food coloring, air tight
container
Instructions:
In a bowl, add cold water to flour until a thick cream forms. Then simmer on
stove for 5 minutes. Add food coloring or flavoring if desired. Store in an
air tight container.
Paint Crafts
Face
Paint
Need:
1 teaspoon cornstarch, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cold cream, food color, 1/2
teaspoon water
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients together. If it is too thick, add some water. The
more food color you add, the darker the face paint will be. You can also add
some glitter for a sparkling color. Apply small amounts on a brush or your
fingers and apply to face.
Washable Finger Paint
Need:
1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup cold water, 3 cups cold water, food coloring,
saucepan, 3 of heat resistant bowls
Instructions:
In large saucepan mix the flour with the 1 cup cold water. Stir until
smooth. Then add the 3 cups cold water.
Cook over medium heat, stirring till mixture thickens and bubbles. Reduce
heat and simmer 1 minute more while still stirring. Divide into three
heat-resistant bowls. Tint with food coloring. Cover and cool.
Washable Window Paint
Need:
Tempera paints (powdered or premixed), Clear dishwashing liquid, bowl,
masking tape, newspaper, paper towel
Instructions:
Mix powdered paint with dish soap in a bowl until it resembles house paint.
Or you can mix a little dish liquid into premixed paints. Line the window
sash with masking tape and be sure to spread newspaper around to protect the
area. To erase paint or touch up mistakes just wipe paint away with a dry
paper towel.
Puffy Paint
Need:
Flour, salt, water, tempera paint, bowl, squeeze bottles (can get these at
Wal-Mart)
Instructions:
Mix equal amounts of flour, salt and water n a bowl. Add liquid Tempera
paint for color. Pour mixture into squeeze bottles and paint. Mixture will
harden in a puffy shape.
Finger Paint 2
Need:
1/4 cup cornstarch, 2 cups water, food coloring, pan
Instructions:
Mix cornstarch and water in a pan. Boil till mixture thickens. Cool down.
Pour into jars and add the food coloring. Add more coloring for darker
colors.
